Artist Profile // #22 Led Zeppelin

What can you say about these guys? It’s embarrassing what they could do with 4 instruments, that current artists can’t match with a 16-piece backing band behind them.

Guitar.Drums.Bass.Vocal: These are the ingredients to a traditional Rock’n’Roll band, and in my eyes, no one did it better than Led Zeppelin. It wasn’t just the great songs, it was the outstanding intricacies that went into them. Just listen to this fantastic interview with Jimmy Page discussing the writing of ‘Stairway to Heaven’.

But what really set them apart, and sent them into a new stratosphere, was Robert Plant’s voice. The growls, the screams, the subtleties; you can see why Jeff Buckley was so inspired by them.

My standout track for them, is just next-level incredible. I don’t have enough superlatives to describe what an incredible journey this song takes you on, and just how outstandingly it takes a standard blues progression and turns it into a musical wonderland.

This is Led Zeppelin, live in Madison Square Garden 1973, with ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’. And some whiz-kid has now remastered the footage to HD, enjoy.
